Evidence In Mediumship And Why It Is Important

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.

—Rumi

Evidential mediumship is a sacred process in which a Spirit communicator (a loved one in Spirit) comes forward to reunite with a loved one on earth (the recipient or, “sitter”). Your loved one will bring forward pieces of information that you can validate as true. The evidence in a reading is a vital part of mediumship. It demonstrates your loved one’s survival beyond death, and allows you to be confident that your loved one is really communicating with you through the Medium. Evidence is relative to the communicator’s relationship with the recipient, and includes facts that identify the communicator, as well as details that bring their essence, presence, and story back to life once more. In addition to facts, evidence can also include emotional evidence that unfolds your loved one’s reason for coming forward, and the messages of love they want to share that speak to your need and your reason for seeking a reading.

Without evidence to support these messages, the sitter may not trust that they have truly come from their loved one, and may doubt that the Medium is connecting with anyone at all. The reading loses its credibility and its healing potential. For example, anyone can say, I have your Dad here and he says he loves you.  While “he loves you” can be a beautiful and very valid message, the reading is so much more healing, and the recipient can trust that message so much more when the Medium has provided them with other specific and accurate evidence about and from Dad that can be validated as true.

So, what are the types of evidence? There are some general categories, but anything and everything can come through, so prepare to be surprised! It is unhelpful to demand that certain pieces of evidence are spoken in order for you to believe your loved one is there. You may end up discounting valid information and missing out on beautiful messages of healing and comfort. Spirit works very hard to get their messages across, and knows the best way to get themselves recognized. They also know what your need is, and who is the best communicator to address it, even if it is different from the person you wished to hear from. They also know how best to work with the particular Medium you have chosen. Trust the process, keep an open mind and heart, and follow Spirit’s lead.

Factual evidence can include many specific things like names, relationships, dates (such as date of passing, birthdays, or anniversaries), places they lived, physical appearance including any tattoos, scars, or other unique features, their age at passing, health conditions and passing condition, their occupation, accomplishments, organizations they belonged to, education, and more.

Evidence that can really bring your loved one to life through the Medium includes their essence and personality, character traits, habits and mannerisms, way of speaking, phrases used, quirks, and their unique interests and hobbies. They can also bring detail about…just to name a few… their faith, favorite sports, pets, cars they drove, or likes and dislikes. They can even describe their family, how many children they have, or tell you who they are with in Spirit. Imagine when the Medium brings through words or nicknames your loved one used, adopts their mannerisms, or mentions an inside joke the two of you shared. You can truly feel as if you are spending time with your loved one once again, all through the evidence they bring.

Emotional evidence can have a profound and healing effect on the recipient. This evidence often gets to the heart of why this communicator has come forward, or why the recipient has sought a reading. Your loved one can bring recognition and closure to situations that occurred in your relationship, acknowledge things that have happened in your life since the passing like weddings, births, or deaths, convey words that were left unspoken, take responsibility for past hurts or situations, or speak on any number of other scenarios that impact you. Your loved one may also want to bring through shared memories, acknowledge things done in their memory, or give their unique guidance, advice, or opinion on things happening in your life currently. When a Spirit brings through their feelings and emotions around a situation, healing can occur for both communicator and recipient.

Sometimes there is evidence that cannot be validated during the reading because it is not known to the sitter. The sitter will then check with someone outside the reading and find out that it is indeed correct, but it was never known to them personally. This type of evidence, informally known as “research evidence,” can be extremely powerful, as it cannot have been obtained in any way from the sitter themselves. This is just another clever way that Spirit can give evidence to prove the continuation of life.

Messages should also be evidential, as Spirit can provide details around the purpose of the message and its context. Messages often include “I love you,” “I’m ok,” “I’m sorry,” “Thank you,” “I’m proud of you,” “I’m still with you,” “Congratulations,” “You made the right decision,” and an infinite number of other sentiments. Evidence can describe the area of life they are referring to, details about the life event or situation they are addressing, as well as emotional evidence that speaks to why they are bringing this particular message.

Your loved one comes forward during a reading with evidence to show you that they continue on in Spirit form, are still connected to you, and are still part of your life. They come in love to provide comfort and reassurances that can touch your soul. Through the evidence, they let you know that they see you, they know your heart, and they are walking with you every step of the way until you meet again.
