How Often Can I Receive Mediumship Readings?
“They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies.”
—William Penn
Experiencing a joyful reunion with your loved one through the sacred act of mediumship can be a comforting and healing experience. An Evidential Medium may bring through essence and personality, characteristics and mannerisms, details about their life, shared memories and cherished moments between the two of you, messages of love and support, and more. The evidence that comes through from your loved one during a reading can, in effect, “paint them back to life.” Further, when the conditions are just right, you may even be able to feel your loved one’s presence through the power of the Medium. Spending time in the essence and presence of your loved one once again can be a reassuring, and even transformative, experience.
For some people, one mediumship reading will be more than enough to satisfy the desire to hear from loved ones, and they will leave the reading with a sense of peace and closure. Others may wish to have continued support from their loved ones and the Spirit world throughout their spiritual and grief journeys, or may seek to connect with other loved ones who did not come through in a previous reading. There is nothing wrong with receiving more than one mediumship reading; in fact, they can provide a natural complement to the traditional therapeutic modalities, such as professional grief counseling and support groups. However, while readings can aid the healing process in a unique and inspirational way, there are a few caveats to consider.
After your reading, it is advisable to allow some time to pass before seeking another. The general recommendation is to allow at least three months, and more prudently six months, to pass. Waiting up to a year or more is also not unreasonable. The reasoning behind this is not due to your loved ones in Spirit being “bothered” by frequent readings (they are not), or the idea that you are somehow “holding them here” by seeking to connect with them (you are not). Rather, it has more to do with keeping your best interests at the center of consideration.
The concern is that those in grief are often vulnerable, and can become dependent upon Mediums and frequent readings to continuously connect with their loved ones. This dependence can sometimes hinder the process of coming to terms with and accepting the passing, as well as adjusting to the loss of the loved one’s physical presence here on earth. Allowing for the passage of time after a reading also provides an opportunity to process the evidence and messages that came through, all of which can be profound and require time to assimilate. The healing and grief journeys will also continue to evolve, a process that cannot be rushed. In the months that follow, more of your day-to-day human “life” will continue to unfold and just think, if you are able to wait, your loved ones in Spirit will have even more to talk about when they next connect with you!
Perhaps most importantly, using Mediums too frequently can impede you from discovering and cultivating your own connection to and awareness of your loved ones in Spirit. Over time, as your own life and spiritual journeys unfold, you may discover that even without a Medium, you are always connected to your loved one through the eternal bonds of love. You may experience signs they are still there, or feel their presence. There can be no separation of you on the soul level. Whether you are aware of their presence or not, your loved ones are always walking beside you, encouraging and supporting you as you endeavor to once again embrace all that life has to offer. Mediumship is just one way of demonstrating their continued presence in your life.
As difficult as it may be, trust the process, and give yourself permission to grieve and adjust in the way that you need to, with no expectations of where you “should” be at any given point. There is no timetable attached to the lifelong journey of healing.
